A multilingual site

Enable multilingual mode, add languages, run the translation, correct a sentence, and choose the URL format.

A WebAcappella site is translated from the Languages section of your site: you add a language, the translation is done by AI, and you can then correct whatever you like, sentence by sentence. Each language has its own URLs, and your visitors get a language selector on the site.

Enabling multilingual mode and adding a language

  1. Turn on the Multilingual site switch. When it’s off, the site is only rendered in its reference language (the one set in the Site Settings).
  2. Click Add a language and choose from the fourteen languages available: French, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Greek and Danish.
  3. Click Translate: the site is first scanned again to pick up new content, then only new or modified texts are translated into all target languages. The work is done in the background, with a progress indicator.

Tracking coverage

The Coverage table counts, for each language, the entries that are translated, missing, out of date (the French text has changed since) and locked. Run Translate again after each series of changes: only new content is sent to the translator, which uses AI credits. Published blog articles are translated along with the rest.

Correcting a translation

The Correct link for a language opens the list of its texts, with filters (to correct, corrected, automatic). Edit a sentence: your correction is kept and protected from subsequent translations. Revert to automatic discards it. A translation in progress suspends corrections until it finishes.

Not happy with a whole language? Redo a translation then Clear deletes the automatic translations for that language (your manual corrections are kept); then run Translate again.

URLs by language

  • Source at the root: the reference language at /, the others prefixed (/en/, /de/).
  • All prefixed: each language has its own prefix, and the root redirects to the reference language.
  • For each page, you can set a different URL for each language in the page properties in the editor (except for the home page). See Page Properties.
  • The reference language is changed in the Site Settings; on a multilingual site, this change reorients the translations and the URLs.
