Formatting Text
Bold, italics, highlight, link: in a component’s text fields, a few characters around a word are all it takes to format it.
In a component’s text fields, you can make a word stand out without taking your hands off the keyboard: just enclose it in a few characters. Type **hello**, and your page will display hello.
**two asterisks**on either side → bold*one asterisk*on each side → italics==two equal signs==on either side → highlighted (see below)[our menu](https://exemple.fr)→ a clickable link to the address given- in a main heading, a single asterisk colors the word instead of putting it in italics (see below)
All symbols
| What you type | What appears |
|---|---|
**important** | important |
*by the way* | by the way |
***both*** | in bold and italics at the same time |
~~€29~~ | the text is crossed out, like a previous price |
==homemade== | the passage is highlighted in your theme’s colors |
[book](https://exemple.fr) | the word becomes a link to the address in parentheses |
Highlighting a word
Enclosed in two equal signs, ==word==, a word or a passage is highlighted in your theme’s colors, in body text as well as in a main heading. Its appearance applies to the whole site and is chosen in the Theme panel, Style tab, Highlight setting: a marker line under the word (the default) or a highlighter band behind it.
In main headings: a colored word
The Title field of large blocks (Title / tagline, home banners) has its own rule: *word* doesn’t put it in italics, it colors the word in your theme’s colors. That’s the colored effect of home page headings, and you choose which word it falls on. Highlighting works there too, and if your site has motion, it is drawn as the heading arrives on screen.
The Enter key breaks the heading where you decide, rather than leaving the choice to the browser. The other symbols do nothing there. A heading is already bold, and **two asterisks** would be displayed as is.
Adding a link
Write the text the visitor will read in square brackets, then, right after it, the address in parentheses: [see the menu](https://exemple.fr/carte). An email address is written the same way: [contact us](mailto:contact@exemple.fr). A link to another site opens in a new tab.
Starting a new line
In fields written over several lines (text, tagline, answer…), just press the Enter key and the line break is kept on your page. In single-line fields it isn’t possible, which is normal.
Three Useful Tips
- The symbols must be right next to the word:
**thank you**works,** thank you **is displayed as is. - Make one or two words bold, not an entire sentence: if everything is bold, nothing stands out.
- There’s no risk in trying: the result appears immediately on the page, and the Undo button on the toolbar lets you go back.
