The media library

Uploading your images, finding them again, filling in their descriptions, deleting them, and the size and storage limits.

The Media section brings together all of your site’s images in one place. You can upload them there in advance, or import them directly from the editor when it’s time to choose an image: either way they end up in the same place and can be reused on any page.

Uploading images#

Drag your files into the area provided, or click to browse your computer, then click Send. Accepted formats: SVG, PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF and AVIF, up to 10 MB per file. HEIC photos from iPhone are accepted too: they are converted automatically during the upload, because this format doesn’t display in every browser. For a photo more than 2,560 pixels wide, you are offered the option of reducing it before uploading, ticked by default: it makes the file lighter with no visible loss on a website.

Finding and describing an image#

The search covers the name, the description, and the tags; a filter separates images from vectors (SVG). Switch from Thumbnails view to Details view to see dimensions and file size. Open an image to edit its description: this is the alternative text suggested by default when you place it on a page, useful for search engines and screen readers.

Deleting an image#

• An image used on a page of your draft cannot be deleted: the message tells you where it is used. Remove it from the page first.
• A deleted image is still served to the live site until the next publication, so nothing breaks in the meantime.
• The file is then kept for ninety days in a bin before being destroyed. There is no restore button: if you make a mistake, write to us from the Contact page within that period.

The limits#

Each site has a maximum number of files, and the storage volume is shared across all your sites. You can check both in the Quota section of your account. See AI credits, energy, and quotas.
