Promo codes and promotions

Two mechanisms: a promo code that the buyer enters at checkout, and a dated campaign that displays a crossed-out price in the catalogue.

Promotions are set up in Shop › Settings, under Promotions. There you'll find two different tools: the promo code, which the buyer types into their basket, and the catalogue promotion, which lowers the displayed price of selected products for a set period.

Promo codes

Click New promo code. The code itself is 3 to 24 characters long, using letters, numbers and hyphens, and is written in capitals. Choose the discount type (percentage of the basket or fixed amount) and its value, then, if you wish, a minimum basket, free delivery with this code, and a validity period (Valid from … to, dates included). The Active tick box lets you prepare a code without activating it.

  • The list shows the status of each code: “Running”, “Upcoming”, “Expired” or “Disabled”, along with the number of uses. There is no limit on the number of uses: to stop a code, untick Active.
  • Deleting a code cancels nothing: orders already placed keep their discount.
  • The discount never exceeds the total for the items: it applies to the products, with delivery still payable unless the code covers it.

Catalogue promotions (crossed-out price)

The crossed-out price on your site comes from here. A campaign has an internal name, a discount type (percentage of the price or fixed amount), the products concerned (the whole catalogue or only the ticked products) and dates. During the campaign, the price displayed and charged goes down; at the end, everything returns to normal, with no need to republish the site. A “Sale” label is applied automatically to the products concerned.

Deleting a campaign immediately returns prices to normal.

How the two work together

The campaign changes the price of each item first. The promo code is then applied to the basket's item total. A buyer can therefore benefit from both a crossed-out price and a code in the same order. On the site, they enter the code in the Promo code field during checkout and click Apply; a rejected code displays “This code is not valid” or the minimum basket required.
