Variants and stock

Sell a product in several sizes or colours, give each combination its own price and stock level, and keep track of quantities in the Stock tab.

A product may exist in several versions: a size, a colour, a capacity, a fragrance. Each possible combination (“Blue / M”, “Blue / L”…) then has its own price, its own stock and its own reference. You choose this mode when creating the product, and it locks as soon as the first order comes in.

Defining the criteria and their values

  1. Open the product page, then its variants. Under “What does the variant apply to?”, name a First criterion (Size, Colour, Material…) and, if needed, a Second criterion. Two criteria maximum.
  2. Enter the values for each criterion, separated by commas (“S, M, L”). Values already used elsewhere in your catalogue are suggested to you, so you stay consistent from one product to the next.
  3. Click Update combinations: the table of all combinations is built automatically.

The combinations table

Each row in the table has a Price incl. tax, a Stock, a Reference and an On sale checkbox. The Apply a price to all rows button saves you retyping the same amount. An unchecked combination isn’t offered to the visitor; on the product page, they choose their options and see “This option is out of stock” if the stock is at zero.

  • Twelve values per criterion, fifty combinations per product maximum.
  • The price shown on the catalogue card is the lowest of the combinations, preceded by “from”.

One photo per value

Photos aren’t set per combination but per value: the colour changes the photo, the size doesn’t. Answer “Which criterion changes the product’s appearance?” (or None for a single photo), then link a photo to each value and click Save photos. A value without a photo displays the product’s main photo.

Keeping track of stock

The rule is the same for a simple product and for a combination: an empty quantity = stock tracking disabled, the item sells without limit; a quantity of zero = “Out of stock” on the site, no further orders possible. Stock goes down when an order is paid (or when you mark a bank transfer as received) and goes back up if you refund it.

The Stock tab brings together all your items with their quantities. Filter by status (out of stock, stock tracking disabled…), then click Edit stock on a row: you can Add to stock, Remove from stock, Disable stock or enable it by entering an initial quantity.
