A section’s background

Set a section’s background (light, dark, gradient, image or video), its shade, its halo, its margins and its media column.

Each section of the page has its own background, and it is the section that carries the mood settings: background, image or video, margins. The components it contains stay transparent and take on that background. To create, move or delete a section, and to shape the boundary between two sections, see Sections, separators and seams.

A section’s bar

Hover over a section: a small bar appears at the top left with Section background (a swatch shows the current background), Top seam, Move this section and Delete the separator. The first section on the page can be neither moved nor deleted.

The background

  • Background: Light, Dark, Gradient or Image. The colours come from your theme: a dark background automatically switches the text to a light colour.
  • Gradient: two handles you drag across a pad set the direction and the spread, between the first and second colour of the theme.
  • Background variation: a slight shade difference to tell two neighbouring sections of the same tone apart.
  • Halo: a soft glow in the corners, at the top, at the bottom or in the centre.
  • Top and bottom margins, in pixels, adjusted automatically on a phone.
  • Media (column): reserves a column on the left or the right for an image, next to the content. The section then displays “Section media” with Choose an image and Position….

A background image or video

With the Image background, choose an image from your media library, then an effect: none, parallax (the image slides more slowly than the page), fixed, or slow zoom (with its extent, speed, direction and origin). The dark or light overlay, with its intensity, keeps text readable on top of it.

A background video can replace the image: click Add… on the Background video row. The video is prepared on your computer, without going through our servers: shortened to ten seconds, sound removed, first frame kept as a poster for slow connections. Stay on the page while it is being prepared. In the editor, the loop doesn’t play (a “Video” badge reminds you of this); it plays on the published site.
