Undo, autosave and the editing lock

How Undo and Redo work, how your changes are saved automatically, the lock that applies when someone else is editing the site, preview mode and screen sizes.

Undo and redo

Undo (⌘Z on Mac, Ctrl+Z on PC) and Redo (⌘⇧Z, Ctrl+Shift+Z) move back through the history of the page you have open, up to a hundred actions, including those performed by the wizard. This history belongs to the page: switching pages or reloading the editor resets it. To go back further, the wizard keeps an automatic backup made before its first change: write to us from the Contact page and we'll restore it.

Automatic saving

There is no Save button: every change is sent to the server one second after your last action, and at most every ten seconds while you work. A thin progress bar at the top of the screen shows this; ⌘S (Ctrl+S) forces the upload. Switching pages or closing the tab waits until everything is saved. If your network connection drops, the editor retries several times before displaying “Save failed”: check your connection and make another change.

One person at a time

A site can only be edited from one place at a time. If someone else on your account (or you, on another device) has the site open, the editor is displayed in Read only mode, showing the time since it was taken and a Retry button. The lock releases itself after three minutes of inactivity, or immediately via Release on the “You are editing” badge shown to the person who is working. A change made in read-only mode cannot be saved: wait until the lock is released before continuing.

Preview and screen sizes

Preview/Test mode shows the page as your visitors will see it, without any editing tools; links work in this mode. This is where the screen size buttons appear: desktop, landscape tablet, portrait tablet and mobile. Returning to Edit mode restores the desktop view.
